I’m Kevin Markwick, independent cinema owner amongst some other things. I had the good fortune to literally grow up in a cinema when my family bought The Picture House in 1964.

I have been solely in charge since 1994 struggling to keep abreast of the times and make my cinema the best I possibly can. Sometimes I succeed and sometimes I fail.

I write and broadcast on cinema related nonsense, if you would like to engage me please get in touch, I would love to hear from you.

Our website is www.picturehouseuckfield.com. Please come and visit us. No really, please come and visit us.

  1. Good luck to you! I live in Derbyshire near an independent cinema called The Ritz: http://www.ritz-belper.co.uk/ in Belper. It has spoiled me to go anywhere else to see a fim! Only 99 seats, the owner is often there, home-made cake, wine chillers you can take to your seat. Wonderful! I am just listening back to you talking on The Film Programme. I wish you and your cinema all the best for 2012. Chris (husband) and I are working on some film scripts and I would love to see them on the screen at the Ritz!

  2. Good luck Kevin with your plans, It is so great to see that you are keeping the dream alive and the legacy from your Dad. Stu Murray here (Steve’s little brother) now living in Christchurch New Zealand in the beautiful suburb of Sumner. Sumner also boasts an independent cinema http://www.hollywoodcinema.co.nz/ which reminds me very much of the Picture House. Loads of fond memories and dreams ignited there in the Picture House. Keep up the great work and thank you for bringing a smile to my face all be it a nostalgic one. I promise to visit when I am next back visting Mum and Steves family. I really like to idea of live stand-up, great innovation for a cinema!

  3. Good Luck, Kevin, I really love Uckfield Cinema and am always boasting about how a little town like ours has this brilliant cinema where you get all the new movies, and can even have a glass of wine and see stuff from NT and Glyndebourne. Well done you, for both having the vision and more importantly , the guts to carry it out so that we can all enjoy the result of you spending your money!! I look forward to the new screens and entrances, best of luck

  4. My wife and I have been regular visitors to The Picture House. This week we had the pleasure of experiencing refurbished Screen 3. Great job! Well done! Fantastic choice of seats – they are so comfortable. Looking forward to our return visit next week.

  5. Hi! I’ve been going to the picture house since 1996, it’s my favourite cinema, and now my girlfriends. the referb is epic, and is a stunning job, we will be popping in this week to see the hobbit, much rather see it there than anywhere else, hands down.

  6. I visited this gem of a cinema today to see MR HOLMES showing in the plush and very comfortable Screen 1..I wish all cinemas were as comfortable as this with a good size screen and great sound..Puts the cheap conversions of many Odeons to shame.
